About Us

VAuctions is a sister site of VCoins, the leading ancient coin and antiquities ecommerce site on the net, with more than 125 dealers and 15,000 registered collectors. VAuctions began operations in 2004, and held more than 200 weekly online auctions in the original format. In September of 2008, Bill Puetz, the founder of VCoins and VAuctions, partnered with Barry Murphy to convert the site to a consignment based format open to all collectors and dealers.
Barry Murphy, Director of Auctions
Barry has been a dealer since 1991, and spent 11 years with Classical Numismatic Group, a leading international numismatic firm, where he was Senior Numismatist. Acknowledged as a leading expert on ancient coins, including ancient coin forgeries, Barry personally catalogs and photographs all VAuctions consignments. In his spare time, Barry fishes to stock his home aquarium.
Bill Puetz, Founder
Bill has been developing software for 30 years. He graduated from Illinois State University with Honors in Applied Computer Science, founded a software development company that became the largest independent software development company in Houston, and was the Vice President of Information Technology for a national retailer. He has also been interested in ancient coins since 1978, when he was a part-time dealer of US and Canadian coins and discovered ancient coins quite by accident. Bill is the current president of the Ancient Coin Collectors Guild.

All items offered on VAuctions are guaranteed to be genuine. Attributions and descriptions are not guaranteed and represent the opinion of the cataloger.

Security & Infrastructure
You can be confident when using VAuctions or VCoins that your information is secure. Beware sites that suggest they are secure because they use SSL -- that is just a very small step in a comprehensive security program. SSL protects only the communication between your browser and the server, but does nothing to protect your data once it has reached the server. In addition, some SSL ciphers are vulnerable, and if the server you're communicating with happens to use one of those, your SSL connection is vulnerable.
Our infrastructure consists of six fully redundant HP Compaq ProLiant DL380 servers (the world's best selling server), two HP Compaq ProLiant DL320 utility servers, three HP Compaq NAS1200S online storage units with more than 4 Terabytes of backup capacity, and two redundant Juniper Netscreen 25 firewalls. We do not use garage-built desktop machines and call them "servers".
Both VAuctions and VCoins are tested daily with sophisticated simulated hacking attacks. These simulated attacks are designed to expose potential software design flaws, and are required by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standards. Both VAuctions and VCoins are PCI Certified Compliant. We also use state-of-the-art artificial intelligence tools to identify and thwart hacking attempts.
