Lot 867.  India, Nidugal Cholas. Irungola II ""Danava Murari"". 12th century. AV pagoda.

Irungola II ""Danava Murari"". 12th century. AV pagoda (9 mm, 3.41 g, 1 h). Garuda striding right, right arm raised in warrior pose / 3-line Kannada legend: Danava Murari Bamtara. MNI -; MSI 282. Rare. Toning in the recesses. Good very fine.

Mitchiner attributes this type to Somesvara IV Chalukya. This coin can easily be distinguished from the Hanuman type by the prominent presence of Garuda's beak, and is rare thus.
