Abbasid, al-Mahdi, AH 158-169 (AD 775-785). AE fals (2.26 gm; 19 mm). Sabur (or Shapur, modern Bishapur in Fars province, Iran) mint. Dated AH 167. Within circle, al-kalifat / al-Mahdi a- / -mir al-mu’minin (“The caliph al-Mahdi commander of the faithful”); ornate floral border / Within circle, bi-Sabur / seb’ wa / sittin wa mi’at (“of Sabur, seven and sixty and [one] hundred”); stylized marginal legend. Shamma p. 281, 9; Miles Persepolis p. 69, 508-509; cf. Album 333 (S). Lovely strike on a nice flan. Choice EF. Nice original green reddish patina.
