Description

Egypt, Alexandria. Antoninus Pius. A.D. 138-161. BI tetradrachm. RY 2 (A.D. 138/9). AVT K T AIΛΛ (sic) AΔP [A]NTωNINO[C Є]VCЄB, bare head of Antoninus Pius right / Canopus of Osiris right; around and in right field, date ([Є]TO-VC B). Cf. Köln 1284 (legend); cf. Dattari (Savio) 2179 (legend); cf. Kampmann & Ganschow 35.6 (legend and slight drapery); RPC Online temp. 13408. Deeply toned. Small flaw on Pius' forehead. Good very fine.

Although several variants of the obverse legend are recorded by Kampmann & Ganschow, mostly engravers' errors, this particular variety with AIΛΛ instead of AIΛ is not.
