Description
KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III 'The Great'. 336-323 BC. AR Drachm (16mm - 4.04 g). Amphipolis mint. Struck 323-320 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress / Zeus seated left, holding eagle in right hand, scepter in left; monogram before. Cf. Price 121 (tetradrachm with the same monogram); Hersh -; Cf. Troxell Group I3 (tetradrachm). Good VF, a little porous. Unpublished.
Neither Price nor Troxell record any drachm issues during this period for Alexander III from this mint.
