|Lot 414. India, Mauryan empire. Ca. 2nd Century B.C. AR karshapana (15 mm, 3.26 g). Five punches, including three human figures / Peacock symbol. GH 591; Pieper 145; MACW 4245. A lovely specimen with sharp punches. Scarce and choice.
The identity of these three figures is still undecided. There is some speculation that these could represent the mythical heroes of the Ramayana: Rama, Sita and Lakshmana.
