Ionia, Erythrai. Ca. 480-450 B.C. AR drachm (16 mm, 4.38 g, 8 h). Nude male leading horse by rein left / E-P-Y-Θ, rosette within incuse square. SNG von Aulock 1944; SNG Copenhagen 556. Old toning, light porosity. Very fine.

A member of the twelve-city Ionian League, Erythrai was known for its production of millstones. This coin was struck during the fleeting period from Persian domination in the aftermath of the Persian invasion of Greece (480-478 B.C.).
