Description

Aurelian. A.D. 270-275. Æ antoninianus (22 mm, 3.67 g, 12 h). Serdica, A.D. 274/5. IMP C AVRELIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust of Aurelian right / RESTITVT OR-BIS, female standing right, presenting wreath to emperor standing left, holding spear; *//KA·Δ·. RIC -; RIC V On-line temp. 2816 (citing only 1 specimen); BN -. Extremely rare, being the second known specimen. Dark green patina with slight brownish mottling, just a hint of roughness in fields. Extremely fine.

The extended PIVS FEL obverse legend for Aurelian is extremely rare, occurring only at Serdica, and only on this type. There are currently just eleven specimens known for all officinae, four examples of officina A, three of officina B, and two examples of both officinae Γ and Δ (including this coin).
