India, Vanga janapada of Bengal. Ca. 2nd century B.C. Æ karshapana (14 mm, 3.72 g). Three punches: river boat, wheel and six-armed symbol / Conch symbol. Rajgor Series 4; MATEC 4651; GH 627. A lovely specimen with bold punches. Scarce and choice.

This post-Mauryan series was issued in the ancient trading centre of Chandraketugarh. The river boat symbol indicates the importance of riverine trade to the local economy.
