Description
PERSIA, SAFAVID TO QAJAR ERA, Circa 17th-18th Century AD. Agate Seal (1.15 gm; 15mm x 13mm x 2mm). Seal with finest Nasta'liq calligraphy, Quranic phrase from surah As-Saff, verse 13, "ﻧَﺼْﺮٌ ﻣِّﻦ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﻭَﻓَﺘْﺢٌ ﻗَﺮِﻳﺐٌ meaning "(with) help from Allah, victory is near", this phrase decorated most of the standards of Persia, Ottoman empire and many other Islamic countries when going to war and has always been an inseparable part of the military administrative organizations including the medals and awards. There is a very large collections of Persian military standards that fell in to the hands of Russians during the Russo-Persian wars of 1826-1828 with this phrase along with the Imperial symbol of Lion and Sun on dispaly in the State museum in San Petersburg. Excellent condition.
