Description
SASANIAN KINGS; Yazdgird I, 399-420 AD. Æ (1.91 gm; 16 mm). Obverse, Yazdgird bust with standard crown turning left, phrase in Pahlavi "Sh(a)MS" in front of face, reverse, fire altar at the center with 8 radiating Iris flowers (Flower of Persia) around it. Phrase "Sh(a)MS" is an Arabic word for Sun. Yazdgird I had very friendly relationship with all the Arab tribes and their leaders to the point that He sent his Son Bahram V to live and be trained by a prominent Arab chieftain. Brown patina. Choice VF / Good VF. Extremely rare in any condition.
