BYZANTINE EMPIRE; Constantine IX Monomachus. Circa. 1050-1060 AD. Æ Follis (8.13 gm; 35 mm). Class D. Constantinople. Christ seated facing on throne with back, wearing nimbus cruciger, pallium and colobium, and holding book of Gospels with both hands, in left and right field IC-XC. Rev.: Inscription ISXS/BASILE/BASIL of three lines, ornament of cross-and-dashes above, below crescent-and-dashes. Sear 1836; DOC p. 685-687. Well struck on a full broad flan. Well centered. Original green patina.
