ISLAMIC DYNASTS; Abbasid, al- Mahdi, 775-785 AD. Æ (2.68 gm; 18 mm). Obverse, "Lillah, Mahdi Amir al Mo'menin" (by Allah, Mahdi is the commander of faithfuls), highly ornate outer circle decoration, typical of issues minted in north and north west Iran, reverse first line "Sabur" (Bishapur), followed by year 163. Well struck on a broad flan. Brown patina. Choice EF. Rare.
