Description
ROMAN REPUBLIC, M. Herennius, 108-107 BC. AR Denarius (3.71 gm; 19 mm). Obv.: Diademed head of Pietas right. Rev.: Naked youth (one of the Catanaean brothers, Amphinomous or Anapias) running right and carrying his father on his shoulder, who looks back and raises his right hand. The reverse shows one of the Catanaean brothers Amphinomos or Anapias rescuing his father from the eruption of Etna. Crawford 308/1a. Shallow scratch on obverse field. Choice VF. Nice old cabinet toning.
