Description
PERSIA, Qajar Dynasty. Circa 1800s. Uniface medal or jewelry (0.52 gm; 19 mm including loop). Obverse, Persian Imperial symbol of standing lion and sun with sword flanked by two branches of wreath. Extremely rare as these types of Imperial symbol appears in Mohamad Shah Qajar period for the first time on a medal for bravery. His successor Naser al din Shah organized various medals for civilian and military personnel in the fashion of European armies. Image of standing lion and Sun became the official symbol of Persia and Iran Imperial Government and lasted until the Islamic Revolution of 1979-See Qajar medals by Zeynab Azmoon 2019, and Qajar medals by Mohamad Moshiri, 1975. Original suspension loop. Choice EF. Extremely rare. Nicely toned.
