ABBASID CALIPHS, Al-Mahdi, 775-785 AD. Æ (2.22 gm; 16 mm). Obverse, shahadah, reverse, first line "al-Khalif, followed by "al-Mahdi, Amir al Mo'menin" followed by illegible phrase/name possibly "Sahm or Sab'", mint: Istaxr and date 167. Red patina. Choice aEF. Excellent condition for the type which also is a rare design. Extremely rare.
