ABBASID CALIPHS, Al-Mamoun, 810-811 AD. AR Dirhem (2.87 gm; 24 mm). mint, Madinat al-Salam, year 198 AH. Reverse, after the Shahadah for Prophet Mohamad, name "Dhu 'l-Ri'āsatayn" (head of two branches of Government), which was the title of Mamoun's Persian grand Vizir "Abu l-Abbas al-Fadl ibn Sahl ibn Zadhanfarukh al-Sarakhsi" This is the second type of the two, one is typically minted in eastern Persia such as Marv or Samarqand and is accompanied with the phrase "Al-Mashriq" (East). This type presented here does not have the phrase "Al-Mashriq". Choice AU. Scarce to rare.
