Abbasid 1st period: al-Ma’mun (194-218h), AR Silver Dirham, Mint: Madinat Tahiriya bi Misr, Date: 205H, (2.73gm, 22mm), About extremely fine and previously unrecorded. Extremely Rare. obv. field, between 2nd and 3rd lines: al-Sari, in exergue: al-Maghrib, rev. field: lillah/ Muhammad rasul Allah/ salla Allah ‘aleyhi wa salam/li’l-khalifa al-Mu’mun. (Lowick).
The mint name on this coin is disfigured by a large die flaw which makes the reading Madinat al-Tahiriya highly conjectural. The word Misr, however, is clear. Because dirhams from Misr during this period are so rarely encountered.
