Description
India, Mughal Emperor: Jahangir (1014-1037 AH / 1605-1628 AD), AV Mohur. Agra Mint, 1020 Dated. (10.10gm, 24mm), Extremely Rare. Near Extremely Fine. The gold mohurs of Jahangir are among the most admired of Mughal coinage, reflecting his patronage of art, calligraphy, and refined minting standards. While mohurs from Agra mint are known, those precisely dated AH 1020 are of exceptional rarity. Very few examples are recorded in major collections, and the type seldom appears at auction. Jahangir, son of the great Akbar, reigned from 1605 to 1628. His coinage is celebrated for stylistic innovations, including portrait and zodiacal types, though the majority of his mohurs carried elegant Persian legends with his imperial epithets. Coins from Agra the imperial capital and center of culture symbolize the height of Mughal power and refinement in the early 17th century.
