Description
ABBASID REVOLUTION, Year 132 AH. Kufa mint. AR Dirhem (2.90 gm; 23 mm). The coins minted in year 132 are special as the Abbasid revolution was in full swing and overcoming all obstacles to remove Umayyads from power. Those minted in Kufa are not necessarily attributed to the first Khalif of Abbasid dynasty but to the governors of the city of Kufa. There were three governors in that single year given the chaotic change in power who were "Khalid ibn Abdallah al-Qasri followed by the Davood ibn Ali ibn Abdallah ibn Abbas and then followed by Issa ibn Musa ibn Mohammad ibn Ali al-Abbas (see Tabatabai / Vasiq work on the Islamic Coinage printed in Tehran 1995). This coin is a very historically significant issue, essential for any collector of the era. Minor scratch on reverse field at 5 o'clock. Choice EF. Toned.
