ARAB-SASANIAN, Abdullah Ibn Zubayr (Rival Khalif of Umayyads). AR Dirhem (3.94 gm; 33 mm). Obverse, Sasanian Khosrau II style bust turning right, name and title in Pahlavi “ ""apdwla-i zubiran amīr-i -wurrishnikān", (Abdallah ibn Zubair-Commander of the faithful), Apzuty and GDH symbols behind the crown, phrase in Arabic “ Bismillah -e Vali al-Amr” (in the name of Allah whose will shall be done) reverse, fire altar with attendants, mint: KRMAN-GRM (Garmsaar), year 56. Malek, Arab-Sasanian p. 151, note 305; SCC 123; Album 34C. Extremely rare type with Pahlavi name of Governor and phrase in Arabic: Bismillah-e Vali al – Amr, Type II of two types of this coin. The Type I replaces the name of the Governor with Shahadah for Prophet Mohammad written in Arabic. Similar coin sold in CNG Islamic Coins Auction 1 for $15,000 and in Islamic Auction 4 for $7,000. There is no example of this type on any web archives. Slight bent at 7 o'clock. Choice EF. Lightly toned.
