PERSIA, Safavid Dynasty, Sam Mirza. AH 1160 (1747). AR rectangular 5 shahi (5.72 gm; 22mm x 14mm). Rassid ‘Mansuri’ dirham. Tabriz mint. Dated AH 1160. Zeno 27942; Album 2697. Choice EF. Extremely Rare.
Sam Mirza claimed to be a son of the Safavid Sultan Husayn. He made a short-lived bid for the Persian throne in the final months of Nadir Shah’s reign, and was briefly acclaimed as Shah in Isbahan. His reign there lasted a mere 89 days before he was defeated at Ardabil by the Afsharid prince, Ibrahim Shah.
