Description
CIVIC COPPER: AE falus, Lanjah mint (now Bandar Lengeh), dated AH 1247 / AD 1831–2, with European bale-mark. (6.05gm, 17mm), Very Fine.
Lengeh was an important trade port from the 18th to the very early 20th century. The al-Qawasim ruled over the port of Lengeh as sheikhs for about a century, until its annexation by Iran in 1887. The al-Qawasim are an Arab dynasty and tribe that rule Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, which today form two of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates.
