Description
FRANCE, Louis XIV, 1643-1715. Silver Jeton (10.54 gm; 32 mm). The obverse features draped bust of King Louis XIV, with the inscription "LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX" (Louis the Great King) and "ARBITER" (Arbiter/Judge). The reverse shows a seated figure of Justice holding scales and a branch, with the text "EX AEQUO ET BONO" (According to the right and good). Below the figure is the inscription "LES PRIEUR ET JUGES CONSULS DE ROUEN 1712" (The Priors and Judge Consuls of Rouen 1712), indicating it was likely a jeton or medal issued for the Rouen Chamber of Commerce. Choice EF. Lightly toned.
