Description
ALCHON HUNS, Proper Hephthalites. Circa 475-550 AD. AR Drachm (3.88 gm; 30 mm). Sasanian-style bust right, probably derived from Kavad I (484-497 AD, 499-531) with one Bactrian word before // half portrait left, raising a cup (of wine?) with his right hand, his left hand on the sword's handle, Sogdian words in the field, assigned to a theoretical "King of Hyons". Vondrovec-287A/B; Cf. Zeno-42957. Well struck on a nice broad medallic flan. Choice EF. Some area of original patina. Extremely rare.
