Description
SASANIAN EMPIRE, Ca. 4th-5th. Century AD. Sasanian gem (not a seal) (3.67 gm; 21mm x 18mm x 5mm). Since the writing is correctly read on the gem and not on the impression which give the mirror image of the correct legend on the gem. Gem text stating a name: "bylcn, (a)hyty" meaning "Burz-Anahid". See Gignoux and Gyselen, "Sceaux Sasanides" 1982- 20.2. Minor chipping on the reverse. Extremely rare and valuable as gem. Very good condition.
