TABERISTAN. Umar ibn A’ala, (771-782 AD). AR hemidrachm (1.96 gm; 24 mm). Obverse: Sasanian bust to the right, name Omar in Pahlavi in front of the face, phrase “ARS” (Ar(u)s? Meaning Stunning?, admired?) or Arun(?-per Pakzadian) on the 3rd quarter and Pahlavi phrase APD on the second quarter. Reverse; fire altar with attendants, mint TPURSTAN (Tabaristan) on the right, date: 124. Scarce year. Choice FDC. Lustrous.
