Description
ROMAN EMPIRE. Septimius Severus. 193-211 AD. AR Denarius (2.33 gm; 17 mm). Struck 197 AD. Laureate head right / MVNIFICENTIA AVG, elephant standing right. RIC IV 100; BMCRE 224; RSC 349. After Septimius defeated Clodius Albinus in the battle of Lugdunum (AD 197) he organized public games in Rome. The reverse of this coin commemorates this event. Choice VF / Good VF. Toned.
