Description
ILKHANS of PERSIA; Abu Said, (717-736 AH). Gold Heavy dinar (9.28 gm; 23 mm). Abu Ishaq mint. dated 728. According to Encyclopaedia Iranica, mint of Abu Ishaq was located in Kazerun in Persis region. extremely rare mint. This mint was the result of destruction of Kazerun and its dependencies during the civil wars of local factions and their battles with Ilkahid forces. City of Shapur (Bishapur) never recovered and other cities such as Nobandegan (built by Khosrau I of Sasanid dynasty) also were utterly destroyed. Lack of minting facilities resulted in creation of new mint in the City of Kazerun called Abu Ishaq. Well struck on a nice full flan. Well centered. Choice EF.
