Description
SASANIAN KINGS. Shapur II. 309-379 AD. Æ Unit (7.28 gm; 24 mm). Shapur's bust with standard crown turning left, reverse, stand alone fire altar. There are recorded examples of rare issues with Sasanian Kings turning left instead of usual turning right starting from Ardashir I (Æ and AR fractions), Shapur I (Æ and AR fractions) Bahram I (AR drachms) Hormizd II (Æ Units) and Peroz (AR drachm) which are all exceedingly rare. This is the finest example of Shapur II we have seen in years. Exceedingly rare this nice. Choice Good VF. Nice original find patina.
