Roman Republic, Sergius Silus, 116 - 115 BC
Silver Denarius, Rome Mint, 18mm, 3.85 grams
Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma right, ROMA * on left and S . C . On right.
Reverse: Helmeted horseman galloping left holding sword and severed head, Q in field below horses' forelegs, M SERGI below, SILVS in exergue.

The reverse portrays the moneyers grandfather who fought during the Second Punic War where he lost his right arm but learned to fight left handed as seen on this coin. He ultimately received an iron prosthetic replacement.
