Description
SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird I, 399-420 AD. Æ (1.69 gm; 15 mm). Obverse; Yazdgird Bust turning right, letters in Pahlavi ""Sh(a)MS"" (Shams in Arabic meaning the ""Sun"") in front of the face, reverse fire altar with attednants encircled by 11 stars. Number 11 is an unusual count unless it can be interpreted as the total of 7 Immortal of Zoroastrian religion called ""Amesha Spenta""(seven stars poitioned closly from 6 to 12 o'clock and 4 other immortal elements standing for the nature's four element which are fire, water, earth and wind (4 stars located with slightly larger distance between them from 6 to 12 o'clock counter clockwise). Lovely strike on a nice full broad flan. Original brown reddish patina. Choice EF. Extremely Rare.
