TABERISTAN. Umar ibn A’ala,(771-782 AD). AR Hemidrachm (1.92 gm; 24 mm). Obverse: Sasanian bust to the right, name Umar in Kufic Arabic in front of the face, Pahlavi phrase “NYWK”-per Pakzadian) on the 3rd quarter and Pahlavi phrase APD on the second quarter. Reverse; fire altar with attendants, mint TPURSTAN (Tabaristan) on the right, date: 128. Choice EF / AU. Lightly toned with some luster.
