SAFAVID DYNASTY of PERSIA, Abbas I, 1588-1629 AD. AR Abbasi (3.82 gm; 20 mm). mint; Huwayzeh (In Khuzistan Province)-No date. Most of the coins minted in Huwayzeh and Dezful were the result of long and multi-decade conflict between the very powerful Shia sect of Musha‘sha’iyyah who were considered a heretical movement within the world of Shia Islam. Conflict began with Shah Ismail and eventually led to victory and peace with Shah Abbas I. Musha'sha'iyyah's power and influence extended to southern Tigris and to Baghdad as well. Their influence was felt until 1920s and rise of Reza Shah Pahlavi. Small flan flaw on obverse and reverse. Choice EF. Lightly toned.
