Description
SASANIAN KINGS, Eastern Frontiers, Shapur I, 240-272 AD. AE Unit (3.31 gm; 19 mm). Obverse, Shapur's bust turning right with bunched hair on the top, reverse, horse man turning left. The design and proportions are identical to rock carving of Shapur and his father Ardashir in Persis and Azarbaijan. Most likely minted during Shapur's campaign in the east. Brown reddish patina. Choice Good VF. Very Rare.
