ROMAN EMPIRE; Trajan, 98-117 AD. AE Sestertius (23.98 gm; 33 mm). Rome, AD 112-114. IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, laureate and draped bust to right / S•P•Q•R•OPTIMO PRINICIPI, equestrian statue of emperor on horseback to left, holding spear; SC in exergue. RIC II 598; Woytek 461v; Banti 197. Light smoothing. Green patina. Choice EF. Extremely Rare legend var. The reverse of this type portrays the much-admired Equus Traiani, the great equestrian statue of Trajan that stood at the entrance to the forum built in his name.
