Sasanian Empire: Bahram II AR drachm, 274-293 AD, struck in Ctesiphon, Obv: Jugate, cuirassed busts of Bahram, wearing winged crown surmounted by globe decorated with concentric arcs, and his queen, wearing bonnet with boar's head, right, facing the bust of Prince 4 left, who wears bonnet with eagle's head (crown of Anahit) and presents wreath, Pahlavi script legend inside beaded border. Rev: Zoroastrian fire altar with attendants facing the altar, the left one representing the King and the right one representing Anahit presenting a wreath, Pahlavi script between each attendant and beaded border; fravahr (investiture wreath) symbol to the left of flames, taurus symbol to right of flames. 3.84gm, 27mm, Extremely Fine. Toned.
