Description
ABBASID, al-Amin, (193-194 AH / 809-813 AD). AR Dirhem (2.89 gm; 24 mm). year 194, mint; Muhammadiyah (Ray), reverse, calling his brother and future Khalif "al-Ma'mun" as crown prince and ending with name of al-Fazl who is Abu al-Abbas, al-Fadl ibn a-Rabi ibn Yunis the grand vizier of Abbasid Khalif Al-Rashid from 187-193 AH and grand vizier of Ma'mun in 193 (Tabatabai pp 217). He was one of the most influential grand viziers in Abbasid empire who was hostile to Barmacid (Persian Barmakids) clan and eventually and successfully removed them from power given the fear that al-Rashid had from them as well. Slightly wavy flan. Choice VF. Lightly toned.
