BYZANTINE EMPIRE. Nicephorus II and Basilius II. 963–969 AD. AV Histamenon Nomisma (4.34 gm; 20 mm). Constantinople. Bust of Christ with cross nimbus facing, right hand in sling of cloak and holding book of Gospels in l.hand. Rev. Half length figures of Nicephorus on left, wearing loros, and Basilius on right with short beard, wearing chlamys, holding between them patriarchal cross. Nicephorus wears loros, his stepson in clad chlamys. Fr. 232 (279); Sear 1776. Choice EF.
