Description
SASANIAN KINGS; Yazdgird I, 399-420 AD. PB (Lead) Unit (3.18 gm; 18 mm). Obverse, Yazdgird's bust turning right, monogram of kidarite style Tamgha in front of face, reverse, fire altar with attendants, crescent and dot on both sides of flame. This Kidarite symbol of royalty appears on Kushano-Sasanian coinage as well as coins of Bahram IV (Yazdgird's father) indicating the ever expanding Perso-Kidarite and later Perso-Hephtalite conflict in the eastern frontier which lasted until the end of 6th century AD. Shallow scratch on reverse field, otherwise well struck on a broad flan. Choice Good VF. Original find patina.
