TROAS. Alexandria Troas. Caracalla, 198-217 AD. Æ As (7.74 gm; 24 mm). 210-213 AD. M AVR ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right. Rev. COL AVG TROAD Alexander the Great standing left, sacrificing over altar before statue of Apollo on low base to right, and holding scepter in left hand; above, eagle flying right, grasping bull's head in talons. Bellinnger A271. BMC 93. The reverse of this issue alludes to the alleged founding of the city by Alexander 'the Great'. Brown patina. Choice Fine.
