Description
Cilicia, Kelenderis. Ca. 350-333 B.C. AR obol (9 mm, 0.66 g, 12 h). Horse galloping right; above, wreath / KE above, goat kneeling left, head turned to look back; in exergue, ΕΠ monogram. Cf. Göktürk 8; cf. SNG BN 116-7; cf. SNG Levante 30; SNG Levante Suppl. -. Variety not recorded in the standard references. Toned. Very fine.
Kelenderis was the westernmost city of the Cilician coast and was considered the best port in southern Asia Minor. It was an original Phoenician settlement that was later expanded by Greek colonists from Samos.
