ANTIQUITIES, Egyptian Alabaster Vase. Ancient Egypt. A nice early dynastic alabaster brim vase, c. 3000 - 2800 BC, of ovoid shape with flattened base, the rim collared with thick lip. The inside is drilled straight down and not hollowed out like what appears during the Old Kingdom. H: 2 5/8” (6.6 cm). Intact, few small chips worn over in antiquity. Nice desert varnish and areas of translucency. Cf. Petrie, Stone and Metal Vases, Pl. XXV, no. 469 for the type. Ex Orange County private collection. A handsome example of the type of stone vessel commonly used for cosmetics.
