Description

VOLUSIAN. 251-253 AD. AR Antoninianus (21mm - 3.49 g). Rome mint. IMP CAE C VIB VOLVSIANO AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / IVNONI MARTIALI, Juno seated slightly left within round distyle temple; star in right field. RIC IV 173; RSC 45. VF/Near EF, toned, nice metal. Obverse strike a touch soft.

This is the first example of this variety that I have handled with the star on the reverse. Rated as rare in RIC, a search of Coin Archives shows just how rare this variety is. There are 17 examples of the IVNONI MARTIALI reverse on Coin Archives, only one with the star. There are no examples on Wildwinds, none in CNG's archives and none currently on VCoins.
