Description

Sicily, Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny. 485-466 B.C. AR tetradrachm (23 mm, 17.08 g, 9 h). Under Hieron I, ca. 478-475 B.C. Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses / ΣVRAKOΣION, diademed head of Arethusa right, surrounded by four dolphins. Boehringer 175 (V75/R122); Randazzo 343 (same dies); SNG ANS -. Fine archaic style. Well centered. Nice very fine.
