Thrace, Perinthus. Nero. A.D. 54-68. Æ (25 mm, 8.51 g, 12 h). NEPΩN KAICAP CEBACTOC, laureate head of Nero right / ΠEΡΙΝ-ΘΩ[N], Statue of Hera of Samos right. Schönert 243; Varbanov 15; RPC 1751. Black patina, rough surfaces. Very fine.
The reverse of this coin depicts the archaic cult statue of Samian Hera as a means of advertising the antiquity and long-standing traditions of Perinthus in the age of the Roman Empire. Perinthus was originally founded by colonists from the island of Samos in 602 B.C.
