M. Carbo. 122 B.C. AR denarius (18 mm, 3.74 g). Brockage strike. Rome. Helmeted head of Roma right; laurel-branch behind / Incuse of obverse. Crawford 276/1; Sydenham 423; Papiria 6. Very fine.

M. Papirius Carbo was a member of the gens Papiria, a plebeian family. His brother, C. Papirius Carbo, worked alongside the famous Gaius Gracchus in instituting the agrarian law introduced by Tiberius Gracchus before he was murdered by senatorial supporters.
