Description
Philip I. A.D. 244-249. Fourrée antoninianus (21 mm, 4.15 g, 5 h). Contemporary imitation. Uncertain eastern mint. IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip I right / CONCORDIA AVGG (D retrograde), Concordia seated left, holding patera and double cornuacopiae. Cf. RIC 109 (single cornucopiae); cf. RSC 34. A very rare and peculiar hybrid counterfeit employing a reverse type of Otacilia Severa. Core exposed in spots, otherwise extremely fine and of fascinating style.
