TABERISTAN. Umar ibn A’ala, (771-782 AD). Silver Hemidrachm (1.90 gm; 23 mm). Obverse: Sasanian bust to the right, name “Umar” in Arabic in front of the face, phrase “ARS” (Ar(u)s? Meaning Stunning?) or Arun(?-per Pakzadian) on the 3rd quarter and Pahlavi phrase APD on the second quarter. Reverse; fire altar with attendants, mint TPURSTAN (Tabaristan) on the right, date: 121. The period coincides with reign of 2nd Abbasid Khalif; Al Manusr (754-775 AD).Choice FDC. Fully lustrous.
