Description

Rudradaman. Ca. A.D. 130-165. AR drachm (15 mm, 2.21 g). King's bust right wearing a satrapal cap / 3-arched hill flanked by moons and sun, with river below and Brahmi legend around: Rajno Kshatrapasa Jayadamasaputrasa Rajno Mahakshatrapasa Rudradamasa. Alexander Fishman, The Silver Coinage of the Western Satraps in India (50-400 AD), Type 7.2. This is a very rare type where the inscription begins at 4 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock (Fishman p. 70). Fine.

Rudradaman was the son of Jayadaman and grandson of the dynasty founder Chastana. He assumed the title of Raja Mahakshatrapa after Saka Era 63 (141 AD).
